Scarlett Johansson is an American actor and singer born in New York City, New York on November 22, 1984. Her acting has earned an acclaim in a diverse range of genres including historical drama, thrillers and action adventures. Johansson was the child of a film director and architect. She was raised by New York City. Hunter is her twin sister, was also born in New York City. At a very young age, she developed a passion for acting. She began making commercial auditions around the age seven. She was enrolled at the Lee Strasberg Theatre Institute shortly following and then was a student at the Professional Children's School, Manhattan to further her education. When she was a kid, Johansson appeared in Sophistry alongside Ethan Hawke and made her movie debut at Rob Reiner's North on the set of Rob Reiner's North in. Johansson made her debut on screen in Just Cause, but she first made an appearance in Manny & Lo, a film that follows orphaned siblings as they run away. She next earned critical acclaim for her role in the film as a teen who had a life-threatening accident The Horse Whisperer (1998) as well as further recognition as cynical teen outcast Rebecca on the set of Ghost World (2001).
